Wow, It's Evening Already
Just dashing in to say that I've been busy -- I just posted a column at Romancing the Blog (my first one!) -- and I haven't gotten back to the boys yet today. Unless I feel particularly inspired later this evening (right now I'm heading downstairs for some dinner and to spend some time with my incredibly tolerant husband) tonight's NaNo chunk is likely to be a bit thin. At any rate, I'm still trying to figure out what more Ashti can tell them without giving it all away. [duck]

Back later, although probably not with as much as I've been posting the last few days. :/

[ETA: Or... let's make that tomorrow. :/ I fell asleep after dinner and just woke up a bit ago. Not going to make it tonight. Sorry! /EDIT]

Angie

Sorry. [duck] Just didn't happen tonight 'cause I was unconscious. Tomorrow, promise. Then I'm going up to visit my mom on Thursday and it might be a bit spotty again for a while, or at least in shorter chunks.

Angie, hiding

*g* Ah well, you are entitled to a day off :P

I am crawling ever onwards with mine. If I can write as much today as I did yesterday then I won't be far behind you. :)

If you keep going the way you have been, you'll definitely catch up pretty soon. I'm going to be visiting my mom for about a week and a half starting on Thursday, and I have no idea how much writing I'll be doing during that time.

Angie, watching you zip past :)

Is that a usual November thing? I think I remember you doing that last nano too. I'm going to be away this weekend, and I'm trying to cover myself for losing time then as well as catching up on where I want to be.

I suspect we might both be doing a big push in the last week!

Yep -- every year. [nod] Thanksgiving is a big family holiday here in the US, and I always spend at least a week visiting my mom for it. Jim comes up later, usually the day before Thanksgiving itself, and then we come home together a couple of days later.

This is one of the reasons I didn't do NaNo the first year I heard about it; there were some other things too (mainly being buried in RPGs which go sort of in real-time and suck up 97% of one's written verbage) but I knew the holiday would take a huge chunk out of it. For the first couple of years I was sure NaNo must've been started by Brits or something, since no American would set something like this in November! [wry smile] June would've been much better, or August. Maybe February. But November! That's almost as bad as December. :/ It is doable, though; one just has to go completely insane over the last week or so. :P

Ahh, that makes sense. My Mom's American, although we live in Britain (I was born and grew up here) so I know about celebrating thanksgiving even though we don't really have the chance since everyone is at work here. We always call the family though and have a special dinner if possible with as many of the close family here as possible (university etc has made that impossible for the last few years though. We never had time built into our schedules to take out in November).

November isn't probably any worse a month for me than any other - other than December - or August when I always try to spend at least a bit of time in the states. I didn't do it the first couple of years I knew about it because my degree took up more of my time than I had to give it! Since then I've tried though.

Right, most people here get Thanksgiving Thursday and that Friday off, so even if you're working or in school, you're pretty much set for a good long weekend if nothing else. With exceptions like retail -- my brother's a manager-type at WalMart and has to be in at like three or four in the morning that Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving is traditionally the biggest holiday shopping day of the year) so we're eating earlyish so allow him to go fall into bed at some ridiculous hour of the early evening. Most people have it off, though -- sort of like a bank holiday over there?

Right. Usually for a bank holiday we get the closest Monday off - so a three day weekend - although like your brother there are many people who have this as an extra busy time. Until last week I was working in catering: any time everyone else has a holiday is the worst and busiest time!
